The first thing to know about this requirement is that it does not require you to earn your Totin' Chip, however, this requirement does not certify you to carry or use a pocketknife. Here are some rules you should know before you use a pocketknife:

• Pocket Knives are tools not toys

• Always have a safety circle before use

• Always have your Totin’ Chip to use a pocketknife

• Always keep your blade clean

• Always keep your blade sharp

• Never cut towards yourself

• Never carry an open knife

Be sure to speak to your troop Totin' Chip Instructor for more specific information on how pocketknives are handled in your troop. Some troops will restrict the size of the knife you are allowed to carry.
