The Totin' Chip is an important part of any Scout's kit, it gives them the permission to have and use a pocketknife, ax, and other sharp bladed tools. The official requirements to earn the Totin' Chip are listed below:
Read and understand woods tools use and safety rules from the Scouts BSA Handbook.
Demonstrate proper handling, care, and use of the pocketknife, ax, and saw.
Use knives, axes, and saws as tools, not playthings, and only when you are able to give them your full attention.
Respect all safety rule to protect others.
Respect property. Cut living and dead trees only with permission from the landowner and with good reason.
