E - Explain, explain the task you will be doing and tell all the steps involved; a visual aid may be helpful. Ask questions to gauge the understanding of the student.

D - Demonstrate, show your student how to do the task at hand. Demonstrate the steps properly using the actual materials and describe what you are doing as you demonstrate.

G - Guide, let your student practice the skill, guide and coach them as they attempt it, this will be the most time consuming part of EDGE.

E - Enable, enable your student by allowing them to complete the task by themselves without your intervention.

To complete this requirement you should apply the above steps to teaching another person (note: this requirement does not specify that it must be another Scout) the square knot.
